Privacy policy

Give(a)Go is a Dublin-based builder community. Give(a)Go is the sole data controller for personal information described in this policy (company registration number: [COMPANY REGISTRATION NUMBER — TBD]).

This privacy policy explains how we collect, use, and look after personal information when you use giveago.co, join the community, sponsor an event, register for or attend a Give(a)Go event (including events we run with partners), or otherwise deal with us.

Community signup: name, email address, a short intro, and your LinkedIn profile URL. You may also tell us whether you want email or WhatsApp updates.

Sponsor enquiries: work email and company name.

Event registration: when you register for an event through a tool we use (such as Luma), we receive the details you submit. That typically includes your name, email address, and any other answers you give on the registration form (for example LinkedIn profile, company, role, or free-text answers). Some events also ask for optional diversity or accessibility information; those questions are labelled as optional where we ask them.

Event photos and videos: images and recordings taken at workshops, builder weekends, hackathons, and other community events. See the event photography section below.

Website analytics: pages you visit, clicks on join and sponsor actions, approximate location derived from IP address, browser and device details, and similar usage data. We use PostHog (hosted in the EU) and Vercel Analytics for this.

We do not ask for payment card details on this site.

We use this information to run the community, organise and administer events, tell you about events, review sponsor interest, improve the website, and share what happens at events. Signup details may also be used to send a welcome note and, if you opted in, community updates.

Where an event is run with a partner or sponsor, we may use registration details to administer that event (for example attendance, seating, communications about the event, and operational reporting).

We do not sell your personal information.

Where GDPR applies, we rely on: (1) your consent, when you submit a form, opt in to updates, or agree to a registration checkbox (including consent to share registration details with named event partners); (2) our legitimate interests in running and promoting a community events programme, including event photography, website analytics, and organiser notifications; and (3) a legal obligation, if we must keep or disclose information.

Organisers see signup and sponsor messages so they can run events (including via Slack). Email updates are sent through EmailOctopus. The site and database are hosted by Vercel and Supabase. Analytics go to PostHog in the EU and Vercel.

Event registration is often collected through third-party tools such as Luma. Luma processes registration data on our behalf as a service provider. Luma also has its own privacy notice for how it operates its platform.

For some events, guest registration details may be shared with named event partners or sponsors so they can help run the event and, where you agree on the registration form, so they may contact you about related opportunities. Which partners receive data depends on the event. We name those partners (and link to their privacy notices where available) on the event registration form, usually through a required consent checkbox. We do not publish a fixed list of every partner in this policy, because partners change by event.

Venues and similar suppliers may receive limited information needed to host the event (for example headcount or dietary needs), where that is necessary to run the gathering.

Event photos and videos may appear on our website, newsletter, and social channels, and a small selection may be shared with a venue or sponsor for a factual recap of an event they hosted or supported.

The site uses cookies and similar technologies for analytics and to understand how people use giveago.co. PostHog is configured for the EU. You can block cookies in your browser; some features may then be limited.

Community and sponsor records are kept for as long as they are useful for running the community or a sponsorship conversation, then deleted or archived. Event registration records are kept for as long as needed to administer the event and related follow-up, then deleted or archived. Event photos and videos are kept as a community archive or for promotion until they are no longer needed, or you have asked us to stop using an image of you. Analytics data is kept in line with our analytics providers' retention settings.

You can ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, withdraw consent, or object to our use of it. Email hello@giveago.co. You can also lodge a complaint with the Data Protection Commission in Ireland.

Where a partner received your details for an event, you may also need to contact that partner about information they hold. Their privacy notice is linked on the relevant event registration form where we have it.

Give(a)Go events are aimed at adults and students in a professional or educational setting. If you are under 18, or you are a parent or guardian and you do not want a young person's information or images to be used, contact us before the event or as soon as possible afterwards.

We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of the page will change when we do.
